Poolside

In Hawaii, time spent poolside is second only to time spent at the beach.  When one thinks about pool environments, different images can come to mind including joyful water play, serene lounging, and athletic exercise.  Depending on the design and shape of the pool, one or all of the above could apply.   Providing comfortable areas to rest between play, meditate into sleep, or refresh after a vigorous workout will inform the furniture choices to provide for this popular outdoor space.

Living poolside should at a minimum, provide seating and lounging areas for those freshly emerged, sopping wet.  Today the mainstay pool chaise or casual seating choices can take on many different looks, while being completely functional for sitting, reading, chatting, or sleeping.  Even outdoor chaise cushions have evolved to seem more like an indoor chaise cushion.  Gone are the days of uncomfortable and hard, plastic feeling cushions.  Today’s cushions feature soft to the touch water resistant and non-fading fabrics in a plethora of colors and patterns.  And for those wishing to avoid cushions, woven chaises or those featuring sling beds offer more water friendly options.  Today’s outdoor furniture materials are not only able to withstand constant UV from the sun above, but are also chlorine and water resistant as well.

Add additional functionality to the poolside space with occasional tables for drinks or casual meals, footrests or ottomans to accompany generous proportioned club seating, or storage containers for pool toys and/or cushion storage.  And don’t forget about offering shade – without a refuge from the sun, wet pool users will head straight inside the home, dripping water everywhere.  By providing your pool guests spaces to rest – while wet – you have given them complete freedom to enjoy themselves in the sun.  Fun!
